What is your title, and can you explain what your daily responsibilities are?
My name is Gaetano Giordano and I am a creative director in Italy, I am responsible to design an idea to promote a product or the corporate identity represented on any media such as brand, printing, packaging, photo editing and composition, web design, motion graphic … I am also an Adobe Community Professional, therefore I develop all of my projects with the Adobe Creative Cloud and I give technical support to the different softwares in forums, social networks, guest events or technical courses.
What inspired you most to become a Graphic artist? Why did you pursue this as a career?
The passion for design, in its various aspects, is something that I have had since childhood and I have always been fascinated by typography, layout, colors and shapes which of course prompted me to want to understand more and more of this world. It’s strange because I have always had a different job from this and I lived this love such as playing Jazz in a garage with friends in the evening but one day the company where I worked for went bankrupt and after a moment of disorientation I made the decision to try to do what I really loved in life so I printed a business card and I started looking for my clients and the difficulties were many, but the satisfaction and rewards urged me to not give up.
Today I still to design everything with the same love … I still play Jazz in a garage !
What do you think is the biggest obstacle to pursuing a career in the creative fields?
I believe that the biggest obstacle to creativity is inside of a person and it’s not outside, this obstacle has different faces which are pride, arrogance and the belief that people are stupid. I see every day incredible talent which leave me breathless and we can see how these people have cultivated within themselves the humility, without ever stopping to be fascinated by the life and taking it in two thousand ways to communicate, lines and shapes hidden to distracted eyes. The biggest obstacle to creativity is losing the capacity to observe.
With all the new versions of Photoshop what changes do you personally feel are the most exciting or brilliant?
Photoshop is my first love, it’s amazing to think about its evolution over the years up to date with the new CC 2014 version, and its change from a stand alone software to be part of an interdependent system as Adobe Creative Cloud is what I consider the most exciting development of this tool, providing a workbench for multiple purposes which reduces time as well as effort and making productivity to levels never seen before.
What Photoshop artists/creatives/Graphic artists do you follow, and why do they stand out from others in your opinion?
Joel Grimes because it’s clear that his is a real talent matured with the experience, and it’s the result of continuous research and study of the art of all time. Jessica Walsh is one of the most incredible creative talent in the world working for agencies of the level of Sagmeister & Walsh designing sensational advertising campaigns and not only that. Clément Faydi ,Interaction Design, UI/UX, Web Design of products such as Adobe Creative SDK Website, Behance Official iPhone App 2.0, Behance Project Uploader, Ford Fiesta Experience and more ! Fred Nerby designer for the idea and development of Nike Vision, Twitter. A Digital Experience or Facebook – New Look & Concept just to give a couple of examples, but I could quote many more.
What social networks do you like most? Which present good examples of Photoshop and Graphic design the best?
Social networks are officially becoming one of the most powerful tools to communicate and spread ideas, in good and in evil, and it is expected that by 2015 they become a mainstay of the advertising … if they are not already. Regarding graphics and design in general, I believe that Behance and Pinterest are the showcase followed by creatives from all over the world along with to Linkedin obviously, but where this last has more a function of C.V.
What is your prediction of the evolution of social networks? How do you think these networks will showcase artists and Photographers better in the future?
“I think I have already answered in the previous question”
What predictions do you have for the future of Photoshop and Graphic Design?
Honestly, everything is constantly changing in the present and perhaps more so in the last 6 or 7 years than in the past 60, prompting us to think about different paths. Definitely the web today is a critical component of communication and it is unthinkable to design an idea without taking into account that this should also be developed for web platforms, mobile and social so I believe that the future is more and more focused towards implement the interaction between Photoshop and web design/mobile software as well as the graphic design can no longer be limited to a flyer or business card but will require broader skills for their work or just to interact with web developers.
